Each municipality offers a wide variety of land to build on, sections under development, apartments or homes.


It is possible to live your dream of settling in our region.



Within the territory of the Rivière-du-Loup MRC, there is some public housing (HLM) managed by the Municipal housing office Externe as well as housing cooperatives and retirement homes Externe.

There are different services and programs available to homeowners and renters to facilitate construction, improving appearance, adapting, renovating and maintenance of dwellings. A municipality is also free to adopt any other measures to encourage the renovation and/or purchase of property in its territory.


Services and programs offered
  • Heritage consulting service

    In order to help add value to their residences, the Rivière-du-Loup MRC offers a consulting service which will provide expertise on historic buildings to owners of old homes (dating from 1950 and earlier). A consultation, visit of the property, preliminary evaluation and proposition in the form of a sketches are offered free of charge.

  • Revitalization programs

    For renovation or construction of new residences, some municipalities offer tax credit programs. These credits generally apply to older neighborhoods. For more information, contact your municipality Suite... (59 ko).

  • Program for historic homes

    Some municipalities offer subsidy programs for the renovation of old homes. For more information, contact your municipality Suite... (59 ko).

  • Emergency Repair Program

    This program helps low-income owner-occupiers who live in rural areas, in a municipality with a population under 5,000. The residence must have a major defect that poses an immediate threat to the health or safety of its occupants. The financial aid covers the urgent repairs.

  • RénoVillage Program

    The RénoVillage program is for low-income owner-occupiers who live in rural areas. The program is for any municipality with a population under 5,000 or any sector not connected to the town’s water main and sewer system in municipalities with a population over 5,000.

    It is aimed at residences needing work to correct one or more major defects in regard to at least one of the following: structure, heating, framework, electricity, plumbing or fire safety.

  • Home Adaptation for Seniors’ Independence

    The Home Adaptation for Seniors’ Independence Program is for low-income people 65 and older. The financial aid is for minor modifications to the occupied home or apartment, which is the principle residence, in order to make it easier to perform certain everyday activities.

    Some examples are: installing grab bars, handrails or even electrical switches or plugs in practical locations.

  • Residential Adaptation Assistance Program

    This program is set up to give financial aid to home owners to make their homes accessible in respect to the limitations of a disabled person who occupies or will be occupying a single family home, a rented apartment or a rooming house as a principle residence.

    It aims, regardless of their income, at increasing the autonomy of people with disabilities so they can remain in their home. The disabled person (applicant) must furnish a report from an occupational therapist showing that the deficiency is significant and persistent and that his incapacity requires modifications to his residence.

    Admissible work is that work which adapts the residence to enable the occupant to enter, exit and have autonomous access to rooms and amenities essential to daily life. This work could take the form of installing an entrance ramp, arranging the bathroom, widening door frames, etc.
